The Doctor had a slightly aghast expression at the word "normal". Normal sounded horrifying, terrible, and everything in between, smack in the center of boring. (He was very happy to say that no, Amy, he didn't know "normal" and he was very proud about that).
"That sounds...normal," the Doctor said, fishing about for something to say. "Saving lots of lives and delivering babies, is he?"
Now that did sound much better than just "normal"! Good man, Rory! By now the Doctor has located part of the picnic in his pockets, pulling out a pair of smooshed-but-still-decent sandwiches and holding one out to Amy.
"Me? On and off, really. Not long-term," the Doctor admitted. "Usually pop in for a quick adventure and pop back out again."
